What is a 4D baby scan?
A 4D baby scan is an ultrasound scan that allows you to see lifelike moving images of your baby. Unlike a conventional 2D hospital scan, which shows flatter black-and-white images, a 4D scan can show your baby's face, expressions and movements in much more detail. This is why many families choose a 4D, 5D or 8K scan as a bonding experience later in pregnancy.
When is the best time to book?
Our 4D, 5D and 8K bonding scans are available from 23 to 36 weeks. The best time for a 4D bonding scan is usually between 28 and 32 weeks. Earlier in pregnancy, you may see more of baby's body and movement. Later in pregnancy, you are more likely to see facial features in greater detail.
Image quality can depend on baby's position, placenta position, fluid levels, gestation and other individual factors.

Before your scan
For the clearest possible images, please follow the preparation guidance sent before your appointment. As with all baby scans, image clarity can vary depending on baby's position on the day. If baby is facing away, tucked low, has hands or feet near the face, or there is reduced fluid around the face, this can affect the images we are able to capture. Our sonographer will always explain what can be seen clearly during your appointment.
Keepsake images and recordings
Your bonding scan is designed to create a memorable experience for you and your family. Depending on your package, you may receive digital images, a scan recording, printed images and keepsake gifts. 8K AI-enhanced images can also be created from suitable 3D images to give a more detailed, lifelike keepsake view of your baby.
